When it comes to bucket list trips, many travelers want to experience a once-in-a-lifetime safari and who can blame them? Getting up-close-and-personal with some of the most beautiful animals in the world is an experience you will never forget.
Africa is known for its big five game – lion, rhino, elephant, leopard, and buffalo.
Tanzania: This East African country is home to Kilimanjaro National Park and Serengeti National Park. One of the most popular places for a safari excursion because so much of the area is protected for just that – looking at the wildlife. Tanzania has a wide variety of safari parks, including Lake Manyara, which is also famous for tree-climbing lions, as well as its flamingos while Lake Tanganyika is home to the best chimpanzee viewing in Africa. In southern Tanzania is the Selous Game Reserve, Africa’s largest game reserve.
Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe is the perfect place to watch enormous herds of elephant and buffalo gathering at the waterholes. You can also see lion, kudu, zebra, impala, hippo and crocodile. Hwange National Park is the largest game reserve in Zimbabwe and holds one of Africa’s highest densities of elephants. Hwange also has over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 bird species recorded.
Kenya: Masai Mara National Reserve is considered Kenya’s best park covering 583 square miles. Masai Mara is the most noted location of the Great Wildebeest Migration — the migration season is from July to October, so plan accordingly. As such, our travelers place great importance on having front row seats to the event. It’s also one of the best places to take a safari to see impalas, warthogs, gazelles and zebras as well as lions, cheetahs, leopards.
Botswana: Another great location for an African safari, it’s a great place to see lions, leopards, cheetahs, caracals, rhinos, hippopotami, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, primates, bat-eared foxes, wild dogs and antelope such as the kudu, impala and lechwe. One of Bowswana’s national parks, Chobe National Park, has the world’s largest concentration of African elephants. The park covers about 4,247 sq mi and supports about 350 species of birds.
Keep in mind that safaris aren’t just done while you ride in closed-in buses. You can take walking safaris and even hot air balloon safaris. Contact your travel agent to arrange your dream safari.
